My Call

I have studied piano since age six and organ since age thirteen. I was first hired as an organist by a small Presbyterian church until they were absorbed by a larger congregation. I then served as organist at an Episcopal church until I went to college. These experiences convinced me to continue my organ study in college, but I also considered a math degree. I pursued both degrees in college, and the years I spent exploring these career options proved to me that my heart was in serving God through music and service to people. I have been blessed by God with friends, discipline, cultural experiences, and most importantly, spiritual growth. Service to others I have learned is also far more rewarding than having a dollar in the pocket. As my life has progressed, I have learned that serving God is what truly makes a man rich. My calling is to love God by serving His people as a minister in the church, using the talents He has given me in music.

Personal Vision

As I consider what the concept of the church means in my life, I immediately associate it with the idea of community and fellowship. Fundamentally, church is about gathering in the name of the Lord to worship and glorify Him for all He is and all He has done for us. Gathering on Sunday morning also serves to "equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ." (Eph. 4:12) In order to do this, God has placed in my heart the desire to combine the pursuit of excellence in music with good theology. To that end I believe the church should sing songs on Sunday morning that carry them through the week. As a minister of worship, I desire to lead the community of believers not only to worship God when the music is playing but also in our daily lives. Jesus himself said, "those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." (John 4:24) The word "worship" is often associated with church services, but I believe that the attitudes and actions that comprise our daily lives should also reflect God. As we gather together, we can thank Him for the grace He continually bestows upon our lives. God has blessed me with the talent of playing piano and organ as well as singing, so I enjoy sharing these talents with people. I want to build community by helping the congregation grow in their love for the Lord through my gift of music.
